Our Major Fundraising Events & Activities–Help Needed: We have adoption events and fundraising events. Adoption events happen at least one per month. Volunteers are needed to staff tables and answer questions, dog walkers (aka ‘beagle wranglers’) are needed to walk/play with dogs when we have multiple dogs in attendance), and assistance with transportation (getting foster dogs to/from the events).

For larger fundraising events, they usually happen 2-3 times per year, and volunteer needs include:
– Set up/tear down of event
– Donations (volunteers needed to request donations and local businesses/organizations willing to donate)
– Staffing of the event (exact needs depend on the event but can include silent auction tables, selling raffle tickets, merchandise, contests, etc.)
– Advertising of event (connections to media and volunteers to spread the word)
How we use your Monetary Donations: 100% of donations go directly to the care of beagles (mostly medical needs). Vet expenses comprise over 90% of our annual budget. Donations are used to offset the cost of vaccinations, exam fees, surgeries, blood work, x-rays, and medically necessary boarding for our beagles.
Volunteers Opportunities & All Job Descriptions———> Search for Type of Volunteer Activities You Want to Do: Foster Coordinator – A dedicated volunteer is needed to coordinate our foster dogs and families. Responsibilities include working with the intake coordinator daily to prioritize dogs coming in from the shelter and/or owner surrenders and match them with foster families. This job requires strong communication skills and a daily commitment. The time commitment for this position depends on the amount of dogs coming in on a given day.

Grant Writer – Assist in writing/finding grants. Strong writing skills and/or editing skills are essential. This person will work with our current grant writers.

Dog Transport – We need volunteers all over the Valley able to transport beagles and/or supplies. Sometimes we have foster dogs that need to get to a vet appointment, or dogs that are being transferred between foster homes.

Photographers – Pet photographers are always needed to help capture photos/videos of our beagles both in their foster homes and while at events.

Artists/Craft Enthusiasts – There is an ongoing list of art/craft projects to support our organization. This includes making dog toys, dog beds, Adopt-Me bandanas and vests, etc.

Event Hosts/Staff – Volunteers are needed at all events (especially adoption events). Volunteers are needed to staff tables and answer questions, dog walkers (aka ‘beagle wranglers’) are needed to walk/play with dogs when we have multiple dogs in attendance), and assistance with transportation (getting foster dogs to/from the events).

Senior, teen, and child volunteers are always welcome. Teen volunteers must have the volunteer waiver signed by a parent/guardian, and child volunteers must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Specific teen/child volunteer opportunities will be discussed based on volunteer needs and interests.

Please note specific needs/interests on your volunteer application so that our volunteer coordinators will be able to help match you or your group with the best opportunities.

** Often we find that community service groups (JROTC, NHS, etc.) enjoy assisting with our adoption events as it is a good mix of opportunities, from set up to tear down, walking dogs to talking with the public.
Justice System Community Service Hours & Volunteers Accepted? Adults and/or Teens?: Yes
An Example of a Volunteer who would be a Great Fit and/or Characterisitics of an Ideal Volunteer for us: Without our dedicated volunteers across Arizona, AZBR could not continue to rescue and re-home needy beagles. AZBR does not have a shelter facility, so we do not have a facility where volunteers can just come to ‘play’ with the dogs. Rather the beagles we rescue are cared for in the homes of our volunteers until the right home is found for each dog. AZBR has volunteers located throughout Arizona and we’re always in need of more people to help us continue to save lives. Don’t be shy! If you don’t know how, we will train you. The sky’s the limit in terms of volunteer opportunities; we are also open to everyone’s individual talents and welcome your ideas as to how you can best help us as well!
Intern Needed?–Type of Help Requested: In an ideal world, we would like an intern that is focused on non-profits and would be interested in promoting our organization/cause in some way. This could be as a foster coordinator (placing incoming dogs with foster families) or as an event planner/host for our adoption events and fundraising events. The number of hours as well as exact job duties would be flexible.
Special Skills & Expertise Needed?–Type of Help Requested: Lawyer/Financial Planner (setting up trusts) – long-term partner. We are looking to help people set up trust funds to care for their pets after their death and also educate them on charitable trust funds.
Fundraisers/community partners – short and long-term
Networking Opportunities, Partnerships, Joint Ventures or Group Associations sought: Non-profits
Businesses/community partners
Referrals, Introductions & Connections Requested: Vets
Dog-friendly realtors (rental properties)
