Our Mission Statement: Our vision is that no person or family within our service area lacks the clothing they need to secure employment, maintain a healthy and hygienic life, and be socially accepted. To that end, One Small Step provides clothing and household linens to people in need, and builds lasting relationships with our clients, characterized by Christian love, trust, and respect.

The Process for Receiving Our Services is:

You acknowledge that you cannot afford to buy the clothes you need, for yourself or your family.
The clothes you receive are for your personal use, not for sale or trade.
You are permitted to take a limited number of articles for yourself, your spouse, and your children under 18. You may not take clothing for anyone else unless you have legal guardianship. The amount of clothing you are permitted to take may vary from time to time, depending on the supply of clothing available.
You may request clothing once every three months.
Children are not permitted in the shopping area, so if at all possible, it’s best to come without your children. If you must bring your children, they are required to stay in Kid Cabin for their own safety and the safety of our other clients. If they are destructive or unhappy in Kid Cabin, you may be asked to return at another time without your children.
A photo ID is required at each visit.
Providing false information on the registration form will disqualify you from any further service.

Donation Wish List—Search Items Needed—————> : Gently-used or new clothing, shoes, sheets, towels, and blankets. Monetary donation and donations of volunteer’s time.
Donation Drop Off Locations & Hours and/or Donation Pick Up Service Area : Donations are accepted Monday through Thursday from 10am to 2pm at the back door of Suite 10, at 1100 N Alma School Road in Chandler. Donations are also accepted at Friends Resale Boutique on Saturday from 12pm to 4pm.

How we use your Monetary Donations: One Small Step works diligently to minimize operating costs so more of our resources can provide the clothing that is needed. Still, there are basic operating costs to keeping Clothes Cabin open. In addition to rent, utilities, and insurance, Clothes Cabin needs funds to purchase supplies and clothing in shortage areas such as underwear, children’s athletic shoes, and work boots.

Our volunteers clean, sort and process clothes, assist clients, and work in Friends Boutique. Generally, new volunteers come in for orientation on Monday or Thursday, and after their first shift are able to move to another volunteer shift, if desired.

Networking Opportunities, Partnerships, Joint Ventures or Group Associations sought: We would like to form partnerships with retail clothing and shoe stores where we would access their unsalable, end-of-season, or returned merchandise to provide to our clients.

Sponsor & Sponsorship Needed: We seek businesses that will sponsor one fund-raising event annually or provide merchandise and services for the silent auction.
Referrals, Introductions & Connections Requested: As we consider long-range goals, it seems that we must consider starting a capital campaign, yet no one on the Board has experience with that. Our revenue sources are varied; certainly all of them could be more productive. We have a strategic business plan that needs to be updated, and Advisory Board and volunteers need to be pulled into that process.
Information & Advice Needed: We are currently seeking a new board member for our organization who will be active and dedicated to our mission.
Specific Questions? We need our Community's Help!: Providing a full range of clothing for every season and every age group is a huge challenge. The incoming donations never meet the quantity, quality, and type of clothing needed for the clients. And yet, we cannot afford to purchase all that is lacking; we must find a way to better balance our donations in and out. For example, 60% of our clients are children needing school clothes and shoes, but maybe 10% of incoming donations are in that category and suitable for re-use. Incoming donations may be 75% women’s clothing, at least half of which will be surplus and passed on to other agencies. Incoming shoes are more likely to be high heels and dressy men’s shoes; the clients are looking for athletic and casual shoes. We work hard to educate the donor as to the quality required for clothing and shoes we can offer our clients, but we still expend a great deal of (wasted) effort repackaging unsuitable clothing to pass on. We cannot seem to find a way to fill the gaping hole between supply and demand of children’s clothing and shoes.
