15 Aug 2015Example: My Goal: I would like to include a brochure about low cost or Free resources available to help animals and I want to have another philanthropic group include them in their backpacks full of free school supplies that they will be giving out to low income families.
When I make an inquiry like this I always am very specific about what information is on the brochure that I want them to include. I also point out how the information I am offering helps the recipient of the inquiry (the other philanthropic group) achieve whatever goal they are trying to achieve.
It is the WIFT principle. What is in it for them. Something like this. BTW I almost always get a “yes” when I use this method.
“Many of the students you will be reaching with your backpack program are low income and their families also have pets that they are trying to support. We are offering a brochure that informs families about the many low cost and even FREE vaccination & spay/neuter options. This takes a financial burden off of their shoulders.”
The brochure will give details on how to get veterinary help for their animals. We are even including a coupon for…X. This will also mean that your ASU freshman will be extra happy knowing that they will be helping animals as well as low income kids when they pack the backpack for your event. This may even get you even more “buy in” at the event (more volunteers) because now you are tapping into different volunteer pools…one group that wants to do something that helps animals and one group that wants to help low income kids and one that is extra motivated because now they will know that it helps both!”
That is how you make an “ask”.
