To add Dog & Cat groups that you have verified are still in operation to this crowd-sourced website simply click on the “edit” button at the top of the wiki page and begin typing. You must be logged in as a new user if it is your first time contributing to this website. Click the “Log In” tab to get started. In order to add information to this page all Contributors need to be logged in. Please remember to hit the “Save” button at the bottom of the page so that your changes are saved.
Dog & Cat groups in other counties in Arizona can sign up directly on the Directory at http://CommunityCause.org/business-directory/ For the purposes of this project we are working on a Master List of Dog & Cat Rescues and other groups that serve Dogs & Cats in Maricopa County, Arizona. Please add any that you see that we are missing along with the information that is missing.
Please Note: Please scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page to find the list of Purebred Rescues for all of Arizona. They will also need to be uploaded into the Directory. Thanks for helping!
Step #1 Go to http://CommunityCause.org/business-directory/ and type in the Dog or Cat Group Name to see if they are already in the Directory. If they are and it has not been noted, please make a note next to the organization name with your first name and last initial. Please make a note that you confirmed that it is listed but are unsure who listed it.
Step #2 If they are not yet in the Directory, google the name or the organization or check the Master List of Dog & Cat Rescues to see if we have a website, phone number or e-mail contact information. Try to make contact with the organization. If no contact can be made with a person who can assist you in filling out the information, please jump to Step #4 and fill in as many of the Directory fields as you can from their website. We or they can go back and edit the profile with more details later. For now, it is important for us to just find out who is still helping animals and what their donation and volunteer needs are. We want to help to get them what they need to be able to help more animals.
Step #3 You can phone or e-mail this greeting: “Hello, my name is ______ I am a community volunteer reaching out to help all animal rescue groups to get the donated items, money, and volunteer help that they need to do what they do better. There is a volunteer run website called CommunityCause.org where we are listing all animal organizations along with what they do and what they need. Do you or someone else there have a few minutes so that I can get some information from you? Once your information is listed, we will get to work helping you to get what you need. We can even help promote your adoption and fundraising events. Everything we do is totally free. It is our way of giving back to our community.” If they have any questions please let them know that they can call and leave a message for Clare at DOG RESCUE. We have been a 501(c)3 dog rescue organization based in the east valley since 1999. I will be happy to chat with them to give them more information.
Step #4 Go through the prompts on http://CommunityCause.org/business-directory/ by clicking on the purple “Submit a Listing” button. Please know that they can skip any of the questions at this time and get just the most essential information loaded into the directory. Please let them know they can come back and edit the information at any time once the Directory Listing is created. The more complete and specific the information is, the more we will be able to help.
Step #5 Thank them and let them know that their wish list and volunteer needs will be added to our list of “How to Help Local Nonprofits” and we will get to work trying to help them get what they need. Please also let them know about the other features of the website…the free Classified Want Ads they can post requests on, the free Events listings, the wikis that promote their fundraising events and adoption locations and hours. You may want to ask them if they need help adding their information to any of those services on the website. Will you help them if they need the extra help and then make a note of any extra help you gave them in the “Notes” section. - Project Proposal:
Get all Maricopa County, Arizona groups working to help Dogs & Cats listed in the Directory of this web site. Generate a directory listing of all groups & organizations, especially the non-profits with a description of the services that they provide to the public to help animals. Find out what everyone is doing to find points of potential collaboration and to also locate gaps in service. Think of this like a census of who is in providing help in Maricopa County and what are the dog & cat related services that they are providing? We will also create a master list of all groups in alphabetical order with checkmarks indicating which services each organization provides. This will then be sent out to all animal related organizations (Pet Stores, Groomers, Veterinarians, etc.) so that they know how to help their clients to find the correct organization that can help them with their questions or concerns. We will also provide a website ready version for anyone who would like to post the information on their own websites.

Arizona Animal Goal #1: Maricopa County, Arizona will have zero euthanasia of any dog that has any hope of a meaningful quality of life by the year 2017

- Reason this Action is Needed:
New organizations are constantly formed and old organizations go out of business or change the services they provide. This Directory will help people from the public to contact the correct organization for the correct service. This Directory will also help organizations that help Dogs & Cats to know who else is helping in Maricopa County, Arizona. That way we can coordinate efforts, cooperate with other organizations and spot gaps in service that need to be filled.
Finished Product:
A complete and current list of all groups and organizations who are Helping Dogs & Cats in Maricopa County, Arizona. A complete description of the services that each group or organization provides. (Which organizations have Spay & Neuter programs, Which organizations adopt out dogs & cats, Which organizations accept unwanted animals from the public, etc.) The services provided by each organization will be added to the content of this web site for easy searching by the public and other individuals and organizations who are trying to help dogs & cats. We will share a downloadable Animal Rescue Resource Book available for free to any animal related organizations (Pet Stores, Groomers, Veterinarians, etc.) so that they know how to help their clients to find the correct organization that can help them with their questions or concerns. We will also provide a website ready version for anyone who would like to post the information on their own websites.

Become a Contributor on this site by clicking on the Log In tab. Once you are a registered user you can add information to this website & help us to call the animal groups listed above, help them to get added to the Directory, and then make a note on the “Working List–Dog & Cat Rescues in Maricopa County, AZ” about where you left off on your part of the project.
Next Steps: Create a Master List of all Dog & Cat groups currently operating in Maricopa County. Then, list them on the Directory with their wish lists, volunteer needs, area of service and exact types of service they provide.
