There are many people who will take advantage of your stressful situation and try to trick you. They may pretend to be the “owner of the dog” in order to resell the dog or use it in a dog fighting ring. They may lie and say they have your dog, cat or other animal. They may say that they need money sent to them to get the animal back to you. They may lie and say that your beloved companion animal has been injured and needs money to repay the veterinarian bills. Be very careful about these scams. Always hold back some information about a distinguishing mark on your animal. That way you can use the distinguishing mark or characteristic on your animal to be sure that you are connecting with the right person or animal.
