Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues Project Proposal:
—–>Our goal is to create a facility where Animal Rescues and Animal Shelters can temporarily house cats and dogs until they are ready for adoption. Animals can stay a maximum of 12 weeks. We need the support, connections, sponsorship and volunteer assistance from the public in order to make this project a reality.
—–>If you are an animal rescue that has dreamed of having your own animal shelter, here is the opportunity to join with other animal rescues to rent space in 1 facility, an Animal Overflow Shelter that all can share. Let’s work together to save more animals! Our goal is to share this opportunity to launch a new type of animal shelter!
This gives rescues & shelters added flexibility. This Animal Overflow & Support Center will give the animal Animal Rescues ability to save the animals they know they can find homes for despite the fact that they are temporarily short on space. The Animal Overflow & Support Center will fill a great need that is currently very evident to all Animal Rescue organizations. We need your help on this project!
Here is how the Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues Project would work:
- Animal Shelters & Rescues are contacted about unwanted animals that cannot be kept in their current home.
- Animal Shelters & Rescues agree to save the lives of the animals that they know they can assist.
- They check to see if they have the kennel space or a foster home in which to place the animal. If they do not have enough space at their own rescue…
- The Animal Shelter or Rescue calls the Animal Overflow & Support Center to secure temporary housing for the animal while they look for an adoptive family, a foster home or kennel space at their own rescue.
- The Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues Project allows Animal Shelters & Rescues more flexibility to save more animals. It allows them to say “Yes!” to an animal that they know they can help despite not having space at their own location. This gives Animal Shelters & Rescues the breathing space they need to be able to say “Yes!” to the animals that they are currently are unable to help due to the lack of shelter space!
The happy result of this project is that more animals are saved and overwhelmed volunteers at Animal Rescue organizations are spared the stress & strain of having to say “No!” to helping animals that they know they could save if they had enough room!
Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues Project Details:
Every year rescues and shelters want to help more animals but space is limited. Most of the time it is not about the cost. It is about the lack of space and foster homes. Animal foster families are increasingly difficult to find.
The Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues project would allow rescues and shelters to house additional animals in their organization until ready for adoption. The maximum period for housing an animal would be 12 weeks, allowing rescues to complete the necessary pre-adoption preparation for the animal.
By keeping the time to 12 weeks, this allows the center to assist 1,200 animals annually. At any one time there is room for 277 puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats. While this facility would not be open to the public as a normal adoption center, rescues would be able to adopt out animals from this location.
To house these animals it would require a minimum of 5,000 square feet and ideally 10,000 square feet of shelter space. Cost to the rescue or shelter would be $1 – $1.50 daily. Rescues and shelters would supply their own volunteers to care for their animals. If they are not capable of doing the work, volunteers for the Animal Overflow & Support Center would be able to care for their animals at a slight increase in cost.

The Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues will help rescues and shelters house more animals and ready them for adoption. By doing so, euthanasia can be reduced. Also many open intake shelters are charging for the intake of animals thus leading many many people to dump the animals in the street. This adds to the problem of pet overpopulation since most are not spayed or neutered.

This project resolves a number of issues that people often face:
Problem #1:–Unwanted animals often have to be removed from their home quickly. Shelters have no time to contact foster homes to assure that they have a space.
Problem #2:–More animals are unwanted than local animal rescues currently have space for. Currently there is just not enough space and/or volunteers available to care for all of the animals that need assistance.
Problem #3:–Animal rescues often need temporary housing for animals when foster homes are out of town.
The Animal Overflow & Support Center for Shelters & Rescues Project solves all of these problems! Every year rescues and shelters are increasingly being overrun with animals that need to be rehomed. This project is one of many steps needed to help save more animals.

***Reduction of Animals that are euthanized in Maricopa County, Arizona due to lack of space in animal shelters.
***Improved assistance for rescues and shelters that want to help, but can not due to space constraints or lack of fosters.
