———————————————————Big Idea—————————————————–
When someone has an interesting plan that they believe would solve a Social or Environmental problem, it is called a “Big Idea” (B.I.) proposal. A Big Idea is posted when people would like to get ideas on how to make the idea even stronger and receive feedback on the potential pros/cons, costs/benefits, and (un)intended consequences that may occur if the idea were to be implemented. You can help by giving helpful feedback on the Big Ideas that are proposed in the comments section below. This “Big Idea” may then move forward to become a Community Goal, a Community Project, a Crowdsourcing Request, a Community Engagement project or any of the other types of projects that create something new in our community. Let’s use the power or crowdsourcing to make the idea even better! Thanks for your help!

FREE Lost & Found Dog Amber Alert System for Maricopa County, Arizona

Step #1

The person who has lost or found a dog fills out the form online. It comes in as a comment on the project post and is reviewed by a volunteer.

Step #2

A case is opened and the comment or online form submission is approved. It is then sent out to anyone who is following the Lost & Found Dog Amber Alert System for each specific city. This may include anyone who signs up to follow the specific Lost & Found Dog city projects. The list of who might choose to follow the Lost & Found Dog Amber Alert System project might include Emergency vets, local vets in the specific city and surrounding cities, people who have lost or found a dog, Amateur “Pet Detectives”, pet stores, groomers, local animal rescue groups and Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, etc.

Step #3

As soon as anyone in the system notifies us that the dog has successfully made its way home, the Lost & Found Dog Amber Alert is cancelled.

Step #4

We are considering the possibility of gathering data in order to be more proactive in solving such problems. Examples might be: How did the dog get out? If we find out we get several cases where the pool guy left the gate open, then we know we need to provide information and education to pool maintenance companies. Or, if the dog was found by using posters, specific online Lost & Found Dog services, etc., then we can inform people about what methods of reuniting a dog with its home tend to be most successful.

Step #5

Constant and never ending improvement and change to this system based on the feedback we get from people and organizations that use the service.

This Big Idea is proposed by: Clare at Dog Rescue a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization since 1999.

Message from the individual or organization that proposed the Big Idea:

We are hoping to test this system by the end of October. It seems like many dogs are frightened and get lost on Halloween. Many dogs accidentally get out because of doors or gates being opened during the festivities. Will you help us to get this system on-line by then by giving your feedback, tips, advice and/or volunteer help?

Specific Questions we would like Feedback on:

1. Who needs to be notified that this system exists? Who should the recipients of the Amber Alert be? Besides Emergency vets, local vets in the specific city and surrounding cities, people who have lost or found a dog, Amateur “Pet Detectives”, pet stores, groomers, local animal rescue groups and Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, who else should be notified that this system exists?

2. Who are the individuals and organizations in Maricopa County, Arizona who are specifically working on the lost & found dog problem? Who should we be coordinating with in order to set up this system efficiently?

3. How do we effectively and efficiently get the word out to the public that the FREE Lost Dog Amber Alert System for Maricopa County, Arizona is there to help? How do we get the word out to local animal lovers that we need them to sign up to get alerts in their city and become community volunteers that are Amateur “Pet Detectives” assisting us in the effort?

4. How do we get the word out about the Crowdsourcing Projects below that need the best lost & found dog or cat tips and advice in order to be effective?
